Pink Tantra: Tantra was Never Meant to be One Path

Dear ones,

There’s a moment that happens in almost every tantric space. Someone asks, “What kind of tantra do you practice?”

And suddenly, things get… categorized.

  • White tantra.

  • Red tantra.

  • Right-hand path.

  • Left-hand path.

It can sound clean. Structured. Even reassuring.

But like most things that get popularized, the deeper truth is more nuanced—and far more interesting.

The Two Classical Currents

At a very simplified level, tantra is often described through two primary paths:

White Tantra — The Path of Devotion

White tantra is the inward path.

It’s often associated with:

  • meditation

  • breathwork

  • mantra

  • energy cultivation without physical sexual expression

Here, sexual energy is not ignored—but it is refined, circulated, sometimes even sublimated.

The goal is union with the divine through stillness, awareness, and transcendence.

From a body perspective, this path tends to cultivate:

  • nervous system regulation

  • coherence

  • spaciousness

It is the quiet temple. But like any path, it has its shadows.

When taken to an extreme, white tantra can become:

  • disembodied

  • avoidant of desire

  • subtly rooted in the idea that the body must be transcended to reach the sacred

Red Tantra — The Path of Embodiment

Red tantra moves in the opposite direction.

It is the path of:

  • the body

  • sensation

  • relationship

  • polarity

  • erotic energy as a lived experience

Here, sexual energy is not something to refine away—it is something to enter.

To feel.

To expand through.

To create with.

From a physiological lens, this path often brings:

  • activation

  • aliveness

  • emotional intensity

  • expansion of capacity

It is the living altar. And it, too, has its shadows.

When untethered, red tantra can become:

  • performative

  • dysregulated

  • attachment or intensity disguised as “spiritual depth”

What I’m Seeing More and More

Most people I work with—and if I’m honest, most practitioners I respect—don’t actually live in just one of these paths. They move between them.

They meditate… and they crave touch.

They regulate… and they long for expansion.

They seek stillness… and they want to feel alive.

And yet, the language hasn’t quite caught up to that lived reality.
