Tui Na or Chinese Medical Massage
-
Tui na or tuina is Chinese medical massage, a form of manipulative therapy, often used in combination with acupuncture, moxibustion, Chinese herbal medicine, T'ai chi, Qi gong, cupping, and dietary therapy.
-
It is a hands-on body treatment, and the practitioner may brush, knead, roll, press, and rub the areas between each of the joints.
-
The techniques may be gentle or quite firm.
-
The name comes from two of the actions: tui means "to push" and na means "to lift and squeeze."
-
The practitioner will also use range of motion, traction, as well as stimulation of acupressure points.
-
These techniques can aid in the treatment of both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, as well as many non-musculoskeletal conditions.
